The Irvington Farmers Market provides the community with fresh, local produce direct from field to table. We support the local merchants of Irvington by increasing the amount of visitors to our village, and we bring together Irvington friends and neighbors in a friendly, vibrant gathering place.

Our market is nestled against the leafy Old Croton Aqueduct trail so many of our shoppers come on foot, with their dogs. We happen to have some of the cutest pooches in the Rivertowns. And there's a water bowl at the market tent for them, too.

The mission of the market has always been and continues to be:

•. To provide local, fresh and freshly prepared food and farm products to our community

•. To create a 'village square' where residents and visitors can find old friends and make new ones

•. To bring shoppers to the downtown district of Irvington

The Irvington Farmers Market was established in 2009 by a group of village residents, the Irvington Business Improvement Committee, and Pascale Le Draoulec, who continues to serve as the Market Director.

The initial goal of the market was to bring foot traffic to downtown Irvington. Originally, the market was held on Wednesday afternoons and was frequented by residents making their mid-week shop, students and parents enjoying an after-school purchase on the lawn and commuters picking up food on their way home.

Then, one year, the Fourth of July fell on a Wednesday. Pascale suggested a morning market and shoppers came in droves. Instead of just buying a few items as a snack or for that evening's dinner, shoppers were stopping at various vendors and filling shopping bags. At that moment, the decision was made to move the market to a weekend morning. Since other neighboring Westchester towns hold their market on Saturday, the choice was made to host the Irvington market on a Sunday. And what a great choice that was. At a Saturday market, most people rush through amidst a busy day of errands and activities but, on a Sunday, there is an ease to the market. Folks shop at a leisurely pace, popping in during a dog walk on the Old Croton Aqueduct, or they come prepared with several bags to fill with their shopping for the week.

Our market is a reflection of our village - full of warmth, kindness and a wonderful sense of community. There is a water cooler with small Dixie cups in front of the market tent, where toddlers have always loved to come and pour themselves their own pint-sized cup of water. And now those children are high schoolers, still coming to the market and seeing so many of the same friendly faces.

Since those early days, our market has continued to grow year after year. Although 2020 posed operational challenges, thanks to the commitment of many, our market flourished. The demand for fresh, local food, the opportunity to shop safely outdoors and the joy of seeing friends and neighbors (albeit socially distanced) attracted more shoppers. This increase in shoppers, in turn, attracted more vendors bringing an even larger selection. We continue to be endlessly grateful to our vendors and visitors. We look forward to the future of our market and to welcoming you there.

Pascale Le Draoulec
Market director,
Morning Glory Markets

Pascale has been eating fresh & local since she was a kid growing up in California and her French expat parents would routinely take her foraging for watercress and snails for dinner. No surprise, she went on to become a newspaper food writer in the Bay Area, after a stint living on a farm in France, then a James Beard Award-winning restaurant critic in NYC. Since 2007 she has been running farmer’s markets in Westchester. In addition to Irvington, she also runs the Hastings, Chappaqua, Bronxville and New York Botanical Gardens Farmer’s Markets. She is the author of “American Pie: Slices of Life (and Pie) from America’s Back Roads” (Harper/Collins).
