Eat a peach!

There’s something about Sunday mornings at the market in the summer that just feels different — the early morning bustle of market set-up gives way to a relaxed shopping vibe that really allows you to take in the bright colors, and all those summer smells, like that first sniff of ripe peaches as you walk past a table stacked high. Our farmers’ fields are exploding right now and and their market bins will be brimming! As if the produce weren't enough, our lineup this week is off the hook.  Let's take a lap around the market together, shall we?

Let's start off with one of those eternal pairings... cheese and bread! Make a beeline for Aux Bon Fromages, where they’ve got their nettle blend gouda — it’s green-flecked, herby, and packed with all those lovely nettle benefits. It’s fantastic crumbled into a salad or simply sliced with a crisp Mead Orchards pink lady apple. While you’re in bread mode, pick up a rustic miche loaf from Wave Hill and you’ve got yourself a perfect market picnic. And don't forget, we loan out beautiful picnic baskets at the Market Manager tent! Come borrow one, and tell us about your haul.

Over at Tivoli Mushrooms, the chanterelles are in, what a culinary treat. Craig’s go-to move is to sweat them down, then toss them into a lemon pepper butter pan sauce made with the drippings from a nice piece of fish. Grab a fillet of hake from Pura Vida Fisheries — it’s a flaky, mild white fish that soaks up all that buttery, peppery goodness without overwhelming the mushrooms. Don’t eat fish? Try this recipe from the always reliable Foragerchef.com which keeps things nice and simple.

And did you know Escargot Voyageur does way more than crêpes? Thierry’s crème brûlée is a must, and he caramelizes the top right there in front of you. Break away from your usual croissant or bagel breakfast and try one of these. It will not disappoint. While you’re there pick up an entrée or two from this veteran French chef's selection to eat later in the week, like his antillais chicken with scallion, ginger, rum, and coconut milk, or his boeuf Bourguignon. For another easy dinner option after a day at the beach - or work - stop at the Mama Hu’s Sushi Bake tent.

Now, I know I'm far from the only one who was over the moon about the arrival of stone fruit at the market! Caradonna has yellow and white peaches right now, and I cannot overstate how good they are. I grabbed some last Sunday and made my favorite peach salsa — with Madura Farms red onion, Halal Pastures cucumber and jalapeño, and a mouth-watering heirloom tomato from Titusville! I've been piling it onto chicken tacos, made with Letterbox Farm chicken: Summer in a tortilla.

Ready to get into some serious cooking? Grab some ground pork or turkey from R&M, then try this skillet meatballs recipe with peaches, basil, and lime — the sweet-savory combo is chef’s kiss. Or, pick up some dill and zucchini from Halal Pastures and make this zucchini peach salad with a creamy lime dressing

Feeling sweet instead of savory? Zoe Bakes has a fantastic guide on baking with your sweet summer peaches! Try these peach muffins with a delicious crumb topping, or head to Maplebrook for some ricotta and take a crack at this impeccable looking Tuscan ricotta peach tart.  Slice market peaches directly into your morning yogurt with some Nicky's Made with Love granola for a true breakfast of champions.

Gaelle from Aux Petits Delices is back with her French specialties, such as macarons and canelés

Boogie Down Bronx Honey will be here too, so catch the always-sunny Flynn before he buzzes off in his fun bee-mobile. And how about some artisanal charcuterie? Stock up on chorizo and smoked calabresa from Iberian Delights while you can, because they won't be back until August! Not sure what you're after? There's always samples & expert advice under the Iberian tent, so listen up!

And finally, make sure you stop by Zeena Bakery for her Dukkah laced focaccia, maamoul cookies, or, if you're early enough, hermuhammara — a Syrian roasted red pepper and pomegranate dip that is hands-down one of the most delicious things you’ll eat all day. Trust me, you’ll want extra focaccia.

Looking for something else to do with your Sunday? Don't forget that the stunning Wickers Creek Vintage Market is back, this time at the gorgeous Lyndhurst Mansion. Get your tickets here — they're only $5, and free admission for the little ones. You'll find music, collectibles, antiques, ephemera, and amazing vibes. It runs from 9am to 2pm, making it a perfect stop before or after your Irvington visit. Go for me — I'm so bummed that I can't be there! Fortunately, I can lose myself in Arielle Ceramics' beautiful pottery design at the market.
