Get your knives pumpkin-ready and...scallops season!
Thanks for coming out to such a beautiful, festive market last weekend! I loved seeing those adorable dogs in their “Adopt Me” vests being walked by Rain or Shine Rescue volunteers. (Tony and Willa were my favorite pups, but shh, don’t tell the others!) We hope that some of those loveable sweethearts found homes. It was pretty heartwarming, and a perfect segue to find out that Thierry from Escargot Voyageur runs his own big dog rescue! Who knew?! Next time you’re buying one of his chocolate ganache or berry coulis crepes, ask him about his pups! (Warning: he will show you pictures....lots and lots of pictures).
Is your child still deciding what to be for Halloween? Come get inspired at our costume tent this week. There was a wide range of kids’ sizes on the rack last week, so there should be something for everyone. And please, bring costumes you’re looking to get rid of! Reduce. Reuse. Recycle!
Have you tried the jalapeño and cilantro cream cheese at Dough Co bagels? It’s my favorite! So light and springy, perfect on my go-to order: a sesame seed bagel. I have a special place in my heart for sesame seeds, because we had a long period of painful separation. My ex had a terrible allergy to them, and for the three years we were together, I had to be extremely careful about not eating them before seeing him. Now, we are just dear friends, and — freedom! — I can have as much sesame as I want. Which is great news for me at the market, because Aya Hummus is so delicious! Have you tried Jenny’s seasonal specials? I sampled her fig balsamic hummus last week and it was divine — she should have it again this Sunday, so give it a try.
One of my regular SNAP customers pointed out that my mustard yellow sweatshirt matched the chanterelles from Tivoli Mushrooms. I had to go look for myself, of course, and she was right! I bought some mushrooms while I was there, and made a delicious miso-mushroom pasta. Now that Doc Pickle will be back at the market this week, you could also pick up some of their sun-dried tomatoes and make this scrumptious mushroom and sun-dried tomato rigatoni. Doc’s artichoke hearts would also make a great addition to the recipe! You really can’t go wrong with adding more veggies to your pasta…
Looking for another way to use your market mushrooms? Head to Halal Pastures Farm and grab some bok choy to pair it with for this nutritious and easy stir-fry.
Autumn into winter is peak scallop season, and Pura Vida Fisheries has them at their freshest and tastiest! This shows-topping seared scallop recipe would be a wonderful way to enjoy your market bounty, with a salsa made of pancetta and Caradonna pears, served alongside quinoa, Titusvillecauliflower, and Halal Pastures pumpkin. Or try these delicious brown butter scallops with butternut squash risotto. The squash at Madura Farms are looking very tempting — and they last a long time too!
We’ve got you covered with prepared foods at the market this week too! Try some handmade, organic dumplings at Grumpy Dumpling Co, or come ready to grab a sandwich from Kinwich Food Truck! Their house-made breakfast sausage, egg and cheese on a brioche bun is decadent perfection. And their General FU is also insanely good and big enough to share.
Bitchin’ Babkas will also be back to take care of that sweet tooth. Red Barn Bakery and Elderberry Road, both dishing out rustic, homespun pies and other baked goods.
And last but not least, Matt from Ready Set Sharp Is back to sharpen your knives, just in time for Halloween. Who wants to carve a Jack O’Lantern with a dull blade? Not me! So bring your knives, your extra costumes, your empty stomachs, and your shopping lists — we’ve got you covered!
