Be super ready for the Super Bowl...and V-day!

We’ve got a big week ahead of us in the world of food! From the Super Bowl to Valentine’s Day and everything in between, Irvington Farmers Market has the essentials you need for a great celebration.

Whether you’re hosting a Super Bowl party, attending one, or just don’t want to miss out on the classic American culinary jubilee, you can’t go wrong with loaded potato skins. We recommend picking up potatoes from Sun Sprout Farm, cheddar from Cooperstown Cheese, and olive oil from Agape Premium Olive Oil, formerly known as Kontoulis Family Olive Oil. Still the same olive oil from the same Kontoulis groves in the Messinia region of Greece, bottled right here in Westchester.

Tamara and Peter who have been selling for Kontoulis founder, Demetra Bouras, for years, and who have been so dedicated to this brand, are taking over the business reins for Demetra who is quite content to spend more time tending to her trees and olives. Congratulations to Tamara and Peter. This is how takeovers are supposed to happen.

Doc Pickle is the perfect one-stop shop for the main ingredient in these crispy fried pickles with pickled ranch dip, and a smattering of bread crumbs from Bien Cuit will go a long way to getting the perfect consistency. Be sure to stop by Wave Hill Breads to pick up pre-made pizzas. They are offering a deal for the Big Game...buy two pizzas and get one free!

If you’re looking for the perfect appetizer, try using bacon from Goode & Local in this creamy bacon-cheddar dip or pick up carrots and garlic from Madura Farm to pack some extra flavor into these buffalo white beans. I know all of this decadent food sounds incredible, but if you find yourself wanting a quick breather, you can whip up an impromptu winter salad with farm-fresh greens, apples from Caradonna Farm, and goat cheese from Cooperstown. Of course, you can rest easy knowing you’ve got some hot honey ribs from R&M Farm or FarmEats in the slow cooker with Boogie Down Bronx Honey.

Phew, we’ve covered some ground! Now, let’s get lovey dovey. Whether you’ve got a romantic evening planned, are laying low with friends, or just want to treat yourself to something delicious, any flatfish from Pura Vida Fisheries would pair perfectly with brown butter, lemon and tarragon for a Valentine’s Day dinner. You can also roast some winter squash from Sun Sprout Farm to serve alongside cheese fondue, or, you can go the brunch route and use flavorful smoked trout from Hudson Valley Fish Farm and yogurt from The White Moustache to make a beautiful hot smoked trout quiche

For a unique twist on a classic dessert, try some of Teagevity’s tasty Earl Grey in chocolate creme brulee. If you’re looking for a no-hassle dessert, you can’t go wrong with a stop at The Countryside Bakery for fantastic homespun cookies and traditional Hungarian treats. Anish’s gluten free hazelnut cake is divine with a scoop of yogurt or ice cream. Also, be sure to pay a visit to Myriad Mirage and The Copper Faucet Soap Co. for local handmade gifts for someone special this week.

We’ll see you at the market!
