Look at us! We're OPEN on Christmas Eve!

And I couldn’t be happier about spending the holiday with you all.  I hope everyone had a happy Hanukkah and is ready for even more holiday cheer in the days to come.

We’re so glad to welcome Hudson Valley Fisheries to Irvington this winter with their hugely popular smoked trout. They also sell fresh trout and between them and Pura Vida, you’ll have plenty of fresh, local seafood to use in any number of variations on the feast of the seven fishes this Christmas Eve. If you’re looking to rework the traditional meal, which calls for seven separate dishes, look no further than this feast of the seven fishes pie. Or, you could opt for seven distinct plates, from buttery clams oreganata to mussels and cod bucatini with spicy tomato sauce or even Hudson Valley Fisheries’ own recipe steelhead en croute! You can bake it with Madura Farms’ fantastic mushrooms for an extra punch of farm-fresh flavor.

This whole roast fish with lemongrass and ginger is another vibrant seafood dish that can be used to celebrate Kwanzaa. Alongside jollof rice with peppers from Caradonna Farm and onions from Madura Farm, candied yams from Sun Sprout Farm or brown stew pork shoulder with pork from FarmEats, there’s no shortage of flavor to go around. You can never go wrong with a simple green salad to ground all of those delicious flavors; I was eating dinner with friends last week and commented on how delicious the salad was, only to find that it was little more than greens and olive oil from our market!

FYI–R&M Farm could not join us on Sunday so we’ve asked FarmEATS to bring chicken and pork to fill the void. Also, you can find chicken and beef at the Great Joy Farm tent who will be filling in for Sun Sprout this Sunday.

For those of us who always seem to have last-minute gifts to get before Christmas, our lovely craftspeople from the last market will be joining us again, with a couple of new additions: Myriad Mirage, who sells beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry inspired by nature, and Chloe Sikirica, who makes elegant pottery, will be there too. Be sure to swing by and snag unique and heartfelt gifts for your loved ones. Why not buy a beautiful mug from Mermud Pottery and gift it with a pound of Don Carvajal Coffee or Teagevity tea? Don't forget the jar of Boogie Down Bronx honey!  Thse would make great stocking stuffers as would, of course,  a squat jar of quince White Moustache yogurt for those in the know.

If you’re on the hunt for desserts to bring to a potluck, or for an easy breakfast before opening gifts on Monday, The Countryside Bakery, joining us for the first time, offers both regular and gluten-free ultra traditional Hungarian baked goods, all delicious, local, and made from scratch with no preservatives. Anish Supreme Foods also has incredible tahini brownies that I ate in a heartbeat after our last market! And Bien Cuit Bakery has all the Viennoiserie you could hope for. Sometimes it’s nice to take a croissant or pain au chocolat break while opening presents. Going to a holiday open house? Bring a festive box of La Petite Occasion’s salted caramels. So French!

We’ll see you at the market - with bells on!
