Mama mia!
We have an action packed Mother's Day market in store for you this weekend!
For starters, we've ordered up a beautiful weather day and, for once, it looks like we might actually get what we asked for.
If you're behind on getting Mom a gift, or just realized that someone else in your world who mothers should also be feted. head straight to a new guest vendor, Wornout Jewelry, specializing in "small-batch," jewelry fashion from vintage pieces. And what Mom doesn't love flowers? Titusville Farm, will have their dizzying array of stems and this year, we've invited Thousand Leaf Garden, for the day to make sure there are enough blooms to go around.
Caradonna Farm will have their spring plants for moms who prefer to plant flowers rather than put them in a vase. And, of course, Master Gardener Nick Storrs, at Homegrown Nursery can help you build the basics of a kitchen garden for Mom.
Are you going to cook for Mom? Crisp asparagus from Caradonna Farm is another sure sign that spring has sprung, and that Mother's Day will be extra delicious this year. Try asparagus in this lemony orzo for a simple and zesty dinner. By blanching the asparagus in the salty water left over from cooking your favorite pasta, you'll retain its vibrant color and flavor. Pro tip: you can substitute NutCrusters from Kariba Farms for bread crumbs!
For an appetizer that's classic without being boring, this Caesar-inspired kale salad is an excellent choice. It has all kinds of market goodies: savory bacon from Goode & Local, creamy ricotta from Maplebrook Creamery, and kale (plus its bright yellow, edible flowers from Halal Pastures Farm) work together to cover every portion of a satisfying dish. To sweeten the deal, you can finish off your meal with a gently floral lavender honey cheesecake that showcases Boogie Down Bronx Honey's natural buttery sweetness.
And though our summer market season doesn't kick off until June 1st, we've starting our music program a couple of weeks earlier...just because. Island Jim and the Bonefish will be on the music pad. So grab a chair (or a picnic blanket from the market tent) and enjoy a beautiful Sunday outside!
